"Promoting Professionalism Since 1885"
Since its inception, The Insurance Institute of Ireland has been the leading professional and educational body for the insurance industry and currently has membership numbers in excess of 4,000. The Institute is also supported by, and receives financial contributions from all the Insurance organisations in Ireland.

It is our mission "to develop professional people for the insurance and financial services sectors". All those employed in and associated with the insurance profession can enjoy privileges of its membership and services.

There are six Local Institutes in Cork, Dublin, Dundalk, Galway, Limerick and Sligo and a south-eastern centre in Waterford. These Local Institutes co-ordinate events, both educational, sporting and social, which support the members in the regions thus providing on-going communication and market awareness, essential for adapting in an ever changing and competitive environment.

Our aims at The Insurance Institute of Ireland are:

to provide a relevant programme of quality education

to integrate and progressively mediate with other established academic bodies in the promotion of insurance education

to anticipate and meet the training and development needs of members and the industry

to ensure a superior level of service to members, students and the industry

to set and maintain high standards of professionalism

In association with the Chartered Insurance Institute, The Insurance Institute of Ireland provides an internationally recognised programme of examinations and qualifications. Where appropriate, the Institute has, and continues to develop, integrated and progressive education programmes, examinations and qualifications specific to Irish law and market practice. The courses are applicable to all sectors within the industry.

There are broadly three levels of achievement - from basic competence level to highly specialised insurance subjects comprising of various sector foundation courses throughout intermediate and professional qualifications to Fellowship. These professional insurance qualifications are recognised throughout the sector by the letters MSTI, ACII and FCII. Fellowship holders are further able to apply for the titles of Chartered Insurer and Chartered Insurance Practitioner.

In addition to the above, the Institute has developed a joint initiative with the Life Insurance Association (LIA) to deliver an education programme specifically for financial advisors. This is based on the FPC(RoI), a course targeted for those who deal with the life assurance and pensions needs of the public. The FPD qualification entitles one to use the designatory letters QFA. The Institute has also jointly initiated a Basic Pensions Course with the LIA and IIPM. It provides an independent assessment of basic competency in pensions and related areas.

Various external educational programmes have also been developed and implemented through continuous and active involvement with other established academic bodies. To date, we have established joint ventures with University College Dublin, the University of Limerick, and the Dublin Institute of Technology to provide relevant graduates for the industry. The Institute continues to forge strong links and progress relationships with other like minded organisations for the purpose of developing and widening the range of insurance study programs available.
