Organisation:
The German Insurance Association for Vocational Education and Training (BWV) articulates and represents the positions of the German insurance industry concerning educational topics before society, politicians, the media and educational associations in Germany and Europe. At the same time, BWV is a source of expert information about all matters relating to the insurance education and training in Germany. BWV informs and supports its member companies as a service provider, identifies developments in educational topics of relevance for the sector and develops solutions with the help of its committees. BWV supports the German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI) with a data base of testing questions and a nationwide testing infrastructure for the qualification of intermediaries. BWV is associated with The German Insurers Association (GDV) and Employers’ Association of Insurance Companies in Germany (AGV). BWV maintains 36 regional branches (BWV Regional), as well as the German Insurance Academy (DVA). The latest initiative of BWV is an industry-wide system for continuing professional development of intermediaries.

Development:
In 1949 a committee for the fostering of young talents and vocational training was founded by the German Insurers Association. This was the hour of birth of industry-wide vocational training in the German insurance industry. For a long time BWV’s work was done by committees within the German Insurers Association (GDV) and the Employers’ Association of Insurance Companies in Germany (AGV). In 1989 BWV was founded as an independent association. Today the team in BWV’s headquarter consists of 30 persons. 148 persons are working for 36 BWV Regional and the DVA teams in Munich and Berlin consist of 55 persons.
